Trick or Treat! That’s right, Halloween is soon upon us again, so it’s time to examine the most popular costumes that will be selling on store shelves or online for 2014! Whether you’re buying for yourself, a loved one, a child or the family pet, some of the same themes are showing up throughout the best selling outfits.

Let’s take a look at what’s hot for 2014, some of which is borrowed from year’s past, some of which is blue and some of which is brand new for the latest installment of Halloween!

In 2014, it’s no surprise that once again Superhero costumes are very popular. This past year saw several big films released which have generated a lot of interest in the characters from the movies or comic books. Among them are three of the bigger films of 2014 with “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

All three films presented both male and female heroes that both kids and adults will enjoy dressing up as. They include Starlord, Rocket Raccoon and Gamora from GOG, as well as Captain America and Black Widow.

For the X-Men there are the always-popular characters of Wolverine, Mystique and Magneto, along with Beast, Professor X and a host of other new mutants who appeared in the film!

Don’t forget about “The Amazing Spiderman 2!” While it may not have been as big a blockbuster, it still has spawned popularity of the Spiderman or Spiderwoman costumes, as well as creative takes on the various villains!

Batman also remains popular and even though there wasn’t a new film in 2014, many kids and adults want to be the Caped Crusader, Robin, Catwoman or the various villains such as Joker and Bane!

Apart from the big superhero films, Disney’s film “Frozen” was a huge hit in 2013 and has brought along with it the popularity of costumes based on Elsa and Olaf. Many kids will be seen wearing these costumes for upcoming parties, events and of course trick or treating!

For men and women, there are all sorts of possibilities for what to dress up as, whether you are a creative or sexy couple, or going out for a night on the town with friends. There’s the tried and true sexy costumes such as pirates, witches, Star Wars, Where’s Waldo, the Ice Bucket Challenge as well as reality TV or movie star characters!
